Tangent Labs Launches LoUPE to Increase Creative Productivity

Dec 01, 2020 at 06:29 pm by Press Release

Toronto, Canada – November 30, 2020 – Today Tangent Labs unveiled LoUPE, a new CG pipeline tool that helps artists and studios improve productivity, increase efficiency, and collaborate with teams around the world. The software is now available in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace and runs on AWS’ flexible, scalable, pay-as-you-go platform to enable better use of existing on-premises resources. Prior to launch, LoUPE was tested exclusively by leading industry talent, including Halifax-based Island of Misfits.

LoUPE was developed to solve critical workflow challenges in the creative production industry. Despite significant improvements in technology, workflows have typically been dependent on costly on-site resources such as storage, rendering, and brick-and-mortar workspaces, while valuable time and resources are tied up managing the complex stages of production. LoUPE simplifies and ties together all aspects of 3D digital content creation in one easy-to-use interface as the world rapidly shifts to remote workforces and adopts the cloud.

“LoUPE was built for artists, by artists” said Jeff Bell, CEO of Tangent Labs. “Now artists and studios can use the latest technology to scale and compete at a global level – and tell better stories with more on the screen.”

LoUPE brings key components of production into one powerful tool:

Asset Management - versioning and tracking of all digital assets required to produce any CG production
Project Management - production task tracking to enable collaboration while keeping all users and data sets under central control
Media Review and Collaboration – create and assign tasks right from active review session, including drag & drop playlist creation, sketching, draw overs, and note taking with no software downloads required
Real-time Analytics and Reporting – view heat maps, dashboards and metrics with an OData connection to popular business productivity tools
Virtual Workstations - enable teams to collaborate across offices and continents, minimizing on-premises hardware requirements
Render Management - augmenting in-house rendering with powerful cloud-based capabilities through AWS Thinkbox Deadline, a hassle-free hybrid compute management toolkit

New Product, Long Track Record
LoUPE was created by Jeff Bell to reduce pain points in the CG production pipeline. His company Tangent Animation had been working on Next Gen, the first animated feature on Netflix to be produced entirely in Blender. As part of the team that first brought Autodesk Maya® to market in the nineties, Jeff understood how technology can unleash creative productivity. The platform developed for Next Gen would eventually become LoUPE, available for use throughout the community.

“LoUPE provides an excellent experience for our artists, production staff, and technical teams,” said Mark M. Pinder, Head of Technology, Island of Misfits. “It allows us to focus on creativity and storytelling without worrying about managing complex legacy production tracking systems.”

Based on extensive customer feedback, LoUPE will launch with plug-ins for major packages including Blender and Autodesk Maya®, allowing artists to select their tool of choice. Additional support for SideFx® Houdini, Epic Games® UnrealEd and Pixar® Universal Scene Description (USD) will follow in upcoming releases.

LoUPE is supported by leading software providers and partners including Blender, Intel, Teradici, Independent Security Evaluators (ISE) and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

LoUPE is available in the AWS Marketplace on a monthly subscription basis, with Indie licenses starting at just $15 per user month. Users may try LoUPE free for their first month here. Full LoUPE pricing details can be found at www.tangent-labs.com/pricing.
