Motion Weekly

The Motion Weekly is a showcase of awe-inspiring short films, animation and motion graphic works from around the web. Some pieces featured have been created by professional studios, while others may be personal works. May this weekly segment serve to inspire you.

Though my original goal with this segment was to specifically highlight motion graphics and animated short films, it had evolved to also showcase incredible live-action, outstanding cinematography, and wicked cool experimental works. It's all motion, it's all inspiring. So, take the time to kick back and have a look at some fantastic work being produced out there. And, if you like what you see in this segment, please share it.

A stunning motion piece from Lukas Vojir, currently working at the creative studio ManvsMachine. I could watch this over and over.

Personal collaboration.

In nature, it is often the simplest rules that lead to forming the most complex, beautiful forms.
flow/er is a visual poem that observes this through a design lens, combining our fascination with organic, raw aesthetic with foreign geometric forms.
We observe natural laws take shape in a strange dance of meticulous choreography clashing with violent forces of nature.

Lost & Found

I've said it many times...I love stop-motion. I'm in awe of anyone spending the huge amount of time doing this...and even moreso when they have a great story like this to tell. This excellent piece comes from director Andrew Goldsmith at And please do take the time to watch the excellent 'making of' video here.

Weekends is an incredibly powerful shortfilm about a child experiencing the recent divorce of his parents. This excellent hand-drawn animation from filmmaker, Trevor Jimenez, has been shortlisted for the 2019 Oscars in the Best Animated Short category & Nominated for the 2019 Annie Awards. Be sure to see Trevor talk about the making of this very personal film here.

Shortlisted for the 2019 Oscars in the Best Animated Short category & Nominated for the 2019 Annie Awards, "Weekends" is a film about a young boy shuffling between the homes of his recently divorced parents. Surreal, dream-like moments mix with the domestic realities of a broken up family in this hand-animated film set in 1980's Toronto.

Lifestyle & Motocross

Though not the usual fare appearing in the Motion Weekly, I chose this piece based on its beautiful editing, great camera work, and how it expertly conveys the excitement of Motocross. - Lifestyle & Motocross - 2010. from T7 Videoproductions&Design on Vimeo.
