Storytellers Entertainment, an emerging gaming studio, has announced today that its fantasy-based retro game, "Imperium Omni," will also be available on iOS and Android, once the game development has been finalised. After its introduction on PC, the fantasy-retro game will be launched on two major consoles, PS4 and Xbox, before being released on mobile devices.

Storytellers Entertainment has taken into account the growing value of the mobile gaming market and the increasing number of mobile gamers, said Matthew Thomas, CEO of the company.

"The mobile gaming market is said to become a 100-billion-dollar industry in 2021," Thomas added. "By then, both smartphone and tablet games will create 59% of revenues in the entire gaming market. Also, by 2021, there’ll be 2.6 billion people playing mobile games worldwide. We want to cater to those gamers.

"As people can read books everywhere they go, we want to ensure that they can play Imperium Omni everywhere they are. The game will support multi-platform play across the PC, Xbox, PS4 and iOS and Android, with the iOS port likely being first, since the game lends itself well to mobile gaming."

What to expect

Imperium Omni, a fantasy video game based on the identically-named book, is an entire story-arc in four parts, much like many fantasy novel series; for example, The Lord of the Rings. Each part is a novel and game in its own right, being broken down further into sections and chapters. This allows for continuous ongoing development and constant content release.

For the retro gaming fan, Imperium Omni is a map-based game. Modern gaming is known for repetitive open-world exploration, whereas Storytellers Entertainment want to introduce a new style of gaming. Real adventurers would not only rely heavily on maps, but they would share them, and maps themselves would become valuable.

In Imperium Omni, having a higher Cartography Skill actually earns the player money when they visit a Cartographer’s Guild and trade in their maps. They get cash, and they also get their own maps updated. All of this interaction still allows for fully modernized 3D animated action through the use of the Unreal Engine.

The plot explores the nature of reality by pitting the players against a foe who doesn’t seem to play by the same ‘reality’ rules that everyone else does. The game’s actual long term goal is to move all the way from the lowest ranked player to eventually be crowned Emperor or Empress of the world, taking that honored spot from the current Empress.
