If you're looking to get into the entertainment industry with your art, you may want to check out the latest book from 3dtotal - The Ultimate Concept Art Career Guide. Now, I don't know if 3dtotal plans on other books of this type for other art careers, but I do believe the info in this book relates to other creative areas as well. It's certainly a great read...and truly practical. But, don't be misled into thinking this will teach you concept art, as it will not.

Picking up this book, it is assumed you are an artist looking for a career option. It does everything to provide a window into the real world of the concept artist, showing you how you can prepare yourself for this exciting career path and reach your full potential, whether in the studio or breaking out on your own.

The book is divided into four main sections:

1) An Introduction to Concept Art - detailed info on what it is, the process, the tools and software, and the key industries you would look to get into.

2) Getting Into Concept Art - education/training, skills to strive for, how to find and develop your style, applying to studios, creating a portfolio and promoting yourself.

3) Working in the Industry - good work habits, managing workload, ethics/copyright, adapting style.

4) Future Options - Freelancing, selling.

Bringing even more value to this book are the added career profiles in each section that give you a better insight into real-world work. The profiled artists provide additional info and advice, while also sharing what a typical workday is like. I found these extras especially fascinating.

Like other 3dtotal books that I have looked at, the physical quality of this book is excellent. Layout and design is also well thought out. And, as it is a guidebook, it is in a smaller format and easy to carry about. All-in-all, I think the book covers the subject matter very well, with valuable info you may not find elsewhere, and all in one place.
