"Window Light"

When I saw the photo labeled "Window Light," it just spoke to me. So, I reached out to Renderosity member Jamason and asked him to tell me more about this particular image.

The back story behind the photo.. it was shot in an old town in Arizona called Jerome. The photo was taken in a very old hotel everyone claims is haunted, but most guests stay there mainly for that reason alone.

What inspired you to take it?

Well, when I shoot photos, I am shooting light. I'm not the kind of photographer that shoots objects. I know that might sound confusing but my point is you can take any boring object there is and make it look very interesting if the light hits it just right, but you can't take an amazing looking object and stick it in the shade and expect it to look amazing without some sort of light to bring out the depth of it.

What does the woman symbolize?

Well, she is a friend of mine and we were walking around Jerome chasing light. I took tons of shots that day and the light was amazing all over that town We went in the haunted hotel and they were nice enough to let us look in in different vacant rooms. The light happened to be perfect in that window, so she became the object. She had not planned on being shot that day. I just asked her to stand there in the perfect light.

What is the meaning behind the photo?

I don't know if I really had a meaning behind it when I shot the photo and that is very rare for me because most of my photos truly are planned out sometimes days and weeks in advance. And, I spent more time setting up lights and props then I do shooting. If you ever go to my website at www.rjamason.com, you will find tons of planned out shoots that all have a meaning behind them. You just happen to pick out one that was a spurt of the moment kind of shot. I was purely grabbing the light while it was there. It's just one of those lucky to be there shots.

Why did you decide to take it?

Well, again the light is what made me take the shot. I used to teach photography full time at our local high school and I have taught all my students to stop walking around with a camera looking for an object to shoot, walk around look for light to shoot and then put an object in the light divide the shadow and light. Good photos take an equal balance of two parts shadow and light, much like music needs 2 parts sound and silence to be a good melody. Photography is the same way, both parts are needed to be a good photo.

You can see more of my work at www.rjamason.com and you can also hear my latest CD that is out on itunes and in stores today.
