VR Hardware Oculus Rift Now Available for Pre-Order

Oculus Rift, that magic VR (virtual reality) hardware device purchased by Facebook last year for a tidy $2 billion dollars, is finally being made available for pre-orders starting on January 6, 2015. In a blog post, Oculus.com made the following announcement.
In a sense, it was the Oculus project (originally started as a highly funded Kickstarter project) that spurred the now intense interest in Virtual Reality both within the CG/Gaming industry and the popular tech world as well. With a hard sell date of March 28, the world of VR might find itself in a paradigm-changing moment. Of course, hardware and applications that support the Oculus Rift will also be essential in determining if we will enter a stage where Virtual Reality will become wide-spread and accessible.
If you aren't that familiar with VR, be sure to read our reporter Henry Winchester's "Virtual Reality: a Primer" to get some background. Then read up at Oculus.com to see why this technology has such great potential.
Note: According to IGN, "the company founder Palmer Luckey, those who pre-order its long awaited VR headset won't have to worry about there being a shortage. In a post on Twitter, Luckey addressed concerns over a potential shortage, saying there's "no chance" Rift pre-orders will sell out. In a subsequent tweet, Luckey noted that if pre-order numbers "somehow exhaust all the stock [they] are building up, later orders will just have a later ship date."
