Boris FX showcases new plug-ins
Boris FX previewed new tools for Adobe, Avid and OFX at SIGGRAPH. Boris is the leading developer of award-winning GPU-accelerated visual effects plug-ins.
Some of its new plug-ins include Mocha VR with 360/VR stereoscopic workflow, Continuum with new 360/VR Unit and Primatte keying, and Sapphire with Mocha masking integration.
BOXX Technologies, Chaos Group do live demos
BOXX demonstrated Chaos Group's V-Ray RT on its new APEXX 8R VCA certified rendering solution powered by eight NVIDIA Quadro P6000 GPUs. Additional live demos included the ultra-compact APEXX 1 featuring a QuadroP1000, the overclocked APEXX 2 powered by a Quadro P4000 and the versatile APEXX 4 with dual Quadro P5000s.
Chaos Group showed off its V-Ray GPU 3.6 during V-Ray Days at SIGGRAPH. the demo featured a hybrid GPU/CPU rendering, full-light-select render element, Cryptomatte and support for NVIDIA NVLINK.
Cebas Visual Technology announces new release
Cebas Visual Technology announced it will release finalRender 3.5 SE trueHybrid in August.
Designed for bigger production houses, the new renderer for Autodesk 3ds Max supports all features on both NVIDIA GPUs through CUDA and on CPUs in a single version. Offering physically based spectral rendering, this new version of finalRender includes unlimited network rendering.
Dell celebrating 20th anniversary
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dell Precision workstations, Dell announced new additions to its Dell Precision fixed workstation portfolio, a special anniversary edition of its Dell Precision 5520 mobile workstation.
The world's thinnest, lightest and smallest workstation is available for a limited time in an exclusive brushed Abyss Anodized exterior design, featuring exclusive wallpapers and premium packaging.
Dell also announced the official availability of Dell Canvas, the new workspace device for digital creation.
Mettle introduces Mantra VR for 360 video
Mettle, which was recently acquired by Adobe, announced Mantra, a Stylization plugin for After Effects and Premiere Pro that works on 360-degree video, is getting closer to release date.
Mettle did tech demos at SIGGRAPH and Renderosity Magazine co-editor Ricky Grove was highly impressed.
A year into development, Mantra VR is a step forward into more specialized 360/VR tools for filmmakers and 360/VR content creators. Look for more about it in the magazine in the future.

Puget Systems shows off workstations for content creators
Puget Systems designs workstations and servers optimized for the needs of content creators and their workflows. At SIGGRRAPH, the company demonstrated its new 4x NVIDIA Quadro 1U rackmounts for rendering.
Puget Systems creates customized computers for everything from Arnold to V-Ray.
Smith Micro demos SuperFly
Built on Blender's Cycles Render Engine, SuperFly brings the power of physically based shading and rendering to Poser.
Existing Poser users can choose to use the same familiar materials as for FireFly, or take full advantage of the SuperFly material system, by building Cycles or physically based shaders. GPU assisted rendering is supported via Nvidia CUDA (Poser Pro version only). For faster renders, users will be able to use their Nvidia GPU when using the SuperFly renderer.
SpeedTree announces Cinema 8 3D
SpeedTree showcased the new SpeedTree Cinema 8 3D modeler for vegetation.
Powered by NVIDIA Pascal GPUs, Cinema 8 3D offers a new tree library with 8,000 surface-scanned textures, new tools, new geometry, full PBR workflow, and improved wind animations.
