Showcase Your Art at Artists of Yardley
Staff Writer By: Hope Kumor (hopeandlove)
I've been researching some local art schools, exhibits and artist events in the area lately trying to grow the magazine. When I came across Artists of Yardley Art Center, I knew it would be a great place to start! I mean, Yardley, Pennsylvania is known to be a beautiful area and so, I reached out to them and they invited me in for a tour.
"We are a community-based arts center focusing on visual arts. We provide art classes and workshops for youth and adults and summer day camp for ages 6-16," said Bette Sovinee, Art Center Coordinator.
They have certified instructors who teach kids camps with classes such as Cake decorating, magical fairies, fun with paint, Drawing from life and Saturday AM cartoons- amongst others. And, they also have adult classes like Color Concepts, Basketry, and Beginning oil designed with you in mind.
"They wanted a place to promote arts, provide a place to learn and show others," said Bette.
To give you some history on this art center, it was established in 2004 and has evolved over the years. In 2010, the AOY "adopted the historic Janney House in Patterson Farm in Yardley, PA as its new home and art center," according to the flyer they have printed. When you look out the window of this historic building, you're greeted with a corn field as well as the Heritage Tree, which is the largest cucumber magnolia tree in Pennsylvania. It's 94 feet tall and has been around since 1837!
Therefore, not only is this art center somewhere to network, share ideas, discuss art, attend classes and fundraisers, gallery exhibition as well as learn from one another, it's a historic landmark! And, they also have local art shows.
"We do shows throughout the year to showcase our members and artisans," says Bette. "Our fall photo show is also now a Juried show and will be open to non members."
So, if you're looking for a place to showcase your art and chat with other passionate people, be sure to check out Artists of Yardley!
