RGUS, known on Renderosity for his kiwi avatar, stumbled on 3D design by accident.

He was interested in architectural renderings and didn't want naked people walking around his models. So he picked up Poser and learned how to create clothed people.

Now he creates figures with all manner of clothing, from skimpy to sophisticated, for his galleries on Renderosity and DeviantArt, he explained from his home in New Zealand.

RGUS was kind enough to answer a few questions so we can get to know him a little better.

How long have you been creating digital art and why did you start?
RGUS:
Looking way back in my gallery, it looks like I started using Poser in December 2004, let me count, 13 years.

I got started by accident really, in those days, I was quite interested in architectural rendering and Poser provided a way of inserting people into a perspective drawing. However, all those naked V3's got the better of me, and so began the long and expensive path to becoming a Poser addict.

What inspires your creations?
RGUS:
Fantasy ideas, images and movies. It's all fantasy, whether there's skimpy clothes or sophisticated outfits. None of it is real, so mixing and matching to create something different is what I find the most interesting.

What is your favorite thing to design?
RGUS: Trying to come up with a scene that could instill a whole story. Putting enough props and character combinations with those props to get the imaginative juices flowing. Getting the viewer to believe "this could actually happen."

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

RGUS: Not a lot really, most people over this many years know me, have a love/hate relationship with me, but that's normal with most artists that have been around this long.

In 12 years, 6.8 million people through Renderosity have viewed my 91 pages of images... that's a lot of rendering time.

What is the process of creating images like for you?
RGUS:
The process is mainly a hit and miss approach.

Load a base figure, apply texture, apply pose, change texture, change morphs, new pose... and do this maybe five to 10 times. By then a theme would come to mind and a title starts to gel.

Add clothes, though I never seem to fully clothe the girls, the viewers like it that way I think.

I may even change and mix clothing packs from various merchants trying to be the ultimate fantasy clothing designer. Sometimes I get away with it, sometimes I shouldn't have bothered.

Do you have traditional art experience? What are you currently working on?

RGUS: No, no formal training or 'traditional art experience,' I just create by the seat of my pants and hope something puts a smile on my face.

Currently, I'm working on images for my Patreon page. It demands a lot of work, but gives me the opportunity to publish images that would not normally be published elsewhere. Opening new horizons as it were.
