Maddelirium turns fantasy characters into reality
Staff Writer By: SchelleFire
From her home in Canada, Maddelirium followed in her family's footsteps and became an artist.
While her parents write and her brother draws, Maddelirium learned how to create renderings after arthritis left her unable to draw.
"I had to find a new way of creating," she said. So she learned how to create art with Poser and DAZ Studio.
The move to digital has reaped rewards for the exclusive vendor. In May 2016, she was awarded Vendor of the Month and All Around in March 2017.
Maddelirium took some time from creating fantasy characters to answer a few questions about herself and her art.
How long have you been creating digital art and why did you start?
I always needed to find an outlet for my art and being that I could no longer draw, thanks to mild arthritis in my drawing hand, I had to find a new way of creating. As new technology has always interested me, finding Poser gave me that means to create. Now, I'm going back to the old days of Poser 4...wow, how Poser has changed!
The idea of 3D modeling just fascinated me and I have loved it ever since I loaded my first Poser base figure. I wasn't planning to become a vendor, I just loved creating images but again..how things have changed! I can honestly say that I love what I do for a living.
What inspires your creations?
I have been playing Everquest II for over 10 years now and not only has it been my escape but an inspiration for characters. I have often said, that if I could open a wormhole to a different dimension that led me to the realm of Norrath, I would be a Dark Elf chasing down Orcs for a living. Yes, I'm a geek at heart.
Movies are also a big inspiration, including the LOTR series and as a horror movie fan, there have been quite a few horror movies that have inspired my creations. My character "5 Days of Ravage" was inspired by the movies 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.
Another source of great inspiration is the TV reality show Face Of', which is a competition for special effects makeup artists. I do sometimes find myself at times, when I'm out and about, noticing certain people and thinking that they would make a beautiful elf character. As a Marvel fan, I am yet to create a Superhero though..maybe in the future, who knows.
What is your favorite thing to design?
I do also enjoy creating realistic characters, though I still haven't mastered the realism aspect to the degree of what I would like as of yet, but I'll get there.
What do you think your best piece of work is and why?
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I refuse the fall into the "Conspiracy Theorist" category because although some theories may seem interesting, most of them reach the point of absurdity and almost insult one's intelligence. Theory is not fact and for me, I look for facts.
For the past few years I have researched past and present world events and after learning as much as I have, be it through fact-based information, it's somewhat easy to predict the future with a basic knowledge on how the world has worked and continues to work. I won't say too much more as most are probably reading this and thinking "What a nut," but what I will say is, opening my eyes and becoming "awakened" as some may say, has made this crazy world of ours make sense.
Thank goodness for the freedom of creation!!
What is the best rabbit hole you've gone down recently?
It began with looking into the tragic event of 9/11 and went on from there, which in turn led to so much more information regarding how the branches of power control the world and the many events that stem from that power which shapes the world we live in today. It continues to be a fascinating journey but admittedly scary at times.
