kauw (Corvus monedula) by Juliette.Gribnau

Juliette Gribnau is primarily a photographer. She specializes in macro bird photographer and her gallery at renderosity.com is filled with truly remarkable photos of these subtle and fascinating creatures. I chose kauw only because I love jackdaws. Any number of photos in Juliette's gallery is equally beautiful and insightful.

Photographing birds requires a great deal of patience. You wait to get the right shot, but in the waiting you learn about the particular bird you are photographing. Kauw shows just how deeply Juliette has observed this beautiful bird. She captures the wariness of the jackdaw along with some of its aggressiveness as well. I also love how she has shaped the shot with perfect framing and light. Capturing the jackdaw with food in its mouth perhaps just at the moment of flight gives the picture a sense of energy. You expect the jackdaw to fly at any moment.

Kauw is a beautiful and revealing photo taken by an obviously sensitive and careful observer of birds. You must visit Juliette's Renderosity gallery to see more of her magnificent photos.
