Designing for Contest at Creative Allies
Staff Writer By: Nick Sorbin (nickcharles)
I'm on an e-mail list from one of my favorite bands and recently received an invite to a design contest they are partnered in. The band is The Infamous Stringdusters, and they have partnered with Crosley Turntables with a design contest where the winning design gets printed on a limited edition turntable case. The prize for this contest includes a cash award of $500, a Crosley turntable featuring the winning design, and a prize pack from the band. Cool, right? But, there's more.
The site hosting this contest is Creative Allies. If you've not heard of them, what they do is engage customers in marketing campaigns for bands, brands, and celebrities. Creative Allies, more specifically, offers a number of design contests where you have the opportunity to win some fantastic prizes, get exposure, and just have fun.
As an artist, it's always a great idea to submit to as many contests as you can, whether or not there are actual prizes. The reasons for this include getting exposure for your work and to continuously challenge yourself. However, a good shot at some cash in your pocket, or other cool prize, is a definite plus.
Signing up on Creative Allies is free and it allows you to enter in any number of current contests they are running. Simply click on a contest, read over the creative brief and submission guidelines, then get to work creating. Having an account on the site also allows you to vote and comment on contest submissions and engage with other designers. And, your design could possibly be chosen to be sold in their store with royalties to you, whether or not you win a contest you enter. Be sure to check out the FAQ page and Terms & Conditions for complete details on contests, licensing, etc.
If this interests you, check out some of their currently running contests and see if you are up to the challenge. And, if you are a fan of bluegrass, do check out The Infamous Stringdusters. But, above all else, just keep creating.
